Organic mattresses are gaining in popularity as people become more aware of eco-friendly options on household items. Organic mattresses sound great in theory, but you have to pay close attention when you’re considering purchasing one. Organic mattresses need to live up to several key points, or their purchase just isn’t worth the money.

1) Comfort: first and foremost, a mattress must be comfortable. Uncomfortable mattresses are the number one cause of poor sleep.

2) Organic mattresses must be Dust Mite Resistant, or your bed won’t last as long as you expect. Once dust mites get in your mattress, it’s unlikely you’ll ever get them out. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

3) Organic mattresses must meet up to standards ratified in the Federal Mattress Flammability Standard Law of 2007, which was designed in order to prevent the 270 deaths that happen nationally each year due to mattresses burning.

Organic mattresses tend to be made from organic cotton and natural wool, and contain no synthetic fibers. Organic mattresses are becoming more common, so careful shopping will tend to turn up the one that’s just for you. We’ll take a look at organic mattresses in more detail in future posts, so stand by.
