One natural resource people tend to take for granted is the availability of fresh, clean running water. Just think how you’d feel if you couldn’t take a daily shower or brush your teeth.

Today a new low flow showerhead hits the market. Called the “Roadrunner” and equipped with ShowerStart technology, it helps to conserve water by not flowing water as it heats up for showering.

The environmentally friendly, low-flow evolve Roadrunner showerhead allows you to walk away while your shower gets hot, stopping the flow to a trickle when the water reaches a comfortable 95 degrees — conserving as much as eight gallons of water for every five minute shower. An added bonus is an auditory alarm: When the flow begins to trickle, you know you can begin your shower.

The market is clogged with low-flow shower heads that function by restricting the amount of water running through the fixture from the federally mandated two-and-a-half gallons per minute to as little as one gallon per minute. The upside? Saving water. The downside? A weak water stream and/or “cold feet syndrome,” in which the water rapidly declines in temperature because of its aeration.

In contrast, the Roadrunner uses a pressure compensating flow regulator to keep the water at one-and-a-half gallons per minute, ensuring a strong flow and consistent temperature, while still saving 40 percent of the water flow per shower. Add to that the 15 percent savings you get from the ShowerStart technology, and you are cutting your water usage by more than half each time you shower.

The Roadrunner low-flow shower head costs $39.95. To find out more about this eco-friendly water saving device, please visit Evolve.
