Save The Earth With Good Everyday Habits

April 1, 2008 – 9:53 am

There’s no time like the present to start gearing up forEarth Day, taking place on April 22, 2008. The truth is, being “green” isn’t hard to do all year long with just a few simple modifications to the way you live.

Here are some tips to become “friendlier” with the environment you live in.

  • Recycle! Materials that you use every day like aluminum cans, plastic bags and bottles and newspapers can all be recycled. Many communities offer recycling programs - check to see if yours has one. Retailers like Wal-Mart and Grocers often times have collection bins for used plastic shopping bags
  • Avoid Using Plastic Or Paper Bags When Shopping. Plastic bags take upwards of 1,000 to decompose, meaning that the land is littered with these durable bags. Plastic bags pose risks to animals of all sorts when they are mistaken for food or critters get caught in one. Paper bags require the forestation of valuable trees. You can find strong, sturdy cloth bags for sale at many places for cheap ( I bought 2 of them from my local Giant Eagle for $.99 each.) and they do the lifting of 6-8 plastic bags.
  • Save Around The Home. Replace old florescent light bulbs with more efficient CFL lightbulbs. Wash your clothes in cold water, and if it’s feasible, consider a washing machine that requires less water and detergent to do the job.
  • I hope these tips help you lead a “greener” life all year long!

    Health and Happiness~ Heather
